What is a LinkedIn content calendar?

A LinkedIn content calendar is a shared schedule of planned posts. It shows the profile, day, theme and status of each post. Teams use it to keep employees, executives and the Company Page posting steadily.

It is the LinkedIn form of a content calendar, also called a social media content calendar or social media content planner. In Heyoo, it is part of the social media planner.

The calendar is one stage of LinkedIn content management, which runs from collecting input to measuring results.

Template

Copy this table into a spreadsheet to plan one week of LinkedIn content. Each row is one post with a profile, a content pillar, a content type and the input it starts from. The status column uses the stages of the Heyoo approval workflow.

Content pillars are the topics each person posts about. Content types keep the mix varied: Personal Perspective, Educational, Company & Culture and Market & Proof.

How do you build a LinkedIn content calendar?

  5. Review overlaps and reschedule

How do you plan a LinkedIn content calendar for a team and for executives?

Plan the calendar person by person. Each person gets content pillars and points of view, a posting rhythm and a monthly round of input, and Heyoo shows each rhythm in the calendar. Drafts follow each person’s tone of voice, so executives and the wider team each sound like themselves.

  • Three to five themes per person

Content Foundation gives each person three to five themes to be known for, next to the company’s content pillars. Heyoo builds them from the person’s LinkedIn profile and your website. Over a month, each person’s rows in the template cover every theme.

  • Post ideas from the sources you follow

How does approval work in a LinkedIn content calendar?

Each post in the calendar carries a status: Draft, Pending Approval, Changes Requested, Approved or Scheduled. The person named on a post approves it before it goes out, so the team sees at a glance which slots still wait for a decision.

Approval is set per person. Some executives approve every post, others delegate publishing to marketing and are notified in advance.

  • Approve or request changes

The profile owner sees each draft and approves it or sends it back with feedback in one click. Edits are versioned, so both sides can compare changes. Approved posts are ready to schedule in their slot.

How do you avoid overlap and reschedule posts?

The Team Calendar shows who posts what and when. Filter by individual, team or campaign. Spot gaps and overlaps before posts go out.

Drag a post to a new slot to reschedule it. Edit the text or visuals and change the time before publishing. Managed profiles are notified in advance. The LinkedIn post scheduler then publishes each post at its slot through the official LinkedIn API.

A shared calendar keeps an employee advocacy programme running week after week, because everyone sees the plan.

  • Edit and reschedule

Filter by Draft, Scheduled or Posted to see where each post stands. Edit a scheduled post or drag it to a new day before it publishes. Managed profiles are notified in advance of scheduled posts.
